SECTION 01 — BOOKINGS Q&A

SECTION 02 — PREPARATION

SECTION 03 — AFTERCARE

01 — IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT

Leave the second skin protective dressing in place for the time explained at your appointment. The instructions depend on the dressing used and your tattoo, so follow the advice given rather than applying a different routine.

Wash your hands before handling the dressing or touching the tattoo.

02 — SECOND SKIN

My usual recommendation is to leave second skin in place for approximately 2-3 days, provided it remains properly sealed and there are no signs of irritation. Follow the specific instructions given at your appointment and the dressing manufacturer’s guidance.

If the seal breaks, the dressing leaks or irritation develops, feel free to remove it earlier. Remove it gently, pulling it slowly downwards from the bottom edge, ideally in warm water under the shower.

03 — CLEANING & MOISTURISING

My usual advice is to clean the tattoo approximately twice daily. With clean hands, gently wash it using lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Rinse without scrubbing, then pat dry with a clean towel or allow it to air-dry.

Once dry, apply a thin layer of an appropriate fragrance-free moisturiser as advised at your appointment. Avoid keeping the skin heavily coated or wet.

04 — DURING HEALING

Mild peeling, flaking and itching can occur while the tattoo heals. Do not scratch, pick at flakes or scabs, or touch the area unnecessarily. Wear clean clothing that does not rub the tattoo.

05 — EXERCISE, SWIMMING & SUN EXPOSURE

Avoid unnecessary friction, prolonged soaking and activities that irritate the healing skin. Adjust exercise if clothing, equipment or movement rubs the tattoo.

My usual recommendation is to avoid swimming and submerging the tattoo for approximately 2–3 weeks, and longer if the skin has not fully healed. Keep the healing tattoo out of direct sun and avoid excessive sun exposure.

06 — WHEN TO SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE

Seek prompt assessment from a qualified healthcare professional if you notice spreading redness, worsening pain, increasing swelling, pus or fever. Do not rely on an artist’s assessment for a medical diagnosis or treatment.

07 — LONG-TERM CARE

Once the skin is fully healed, moisturise when needed and protect the tattoo from the sun with clothing, shade and a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher. Follow the sunscreen’s application instructions.
